The IELTS Reading section is the second test given on the exam day. Examinees are given an hour to answer three passages with 12-13 questions each. If you are taking the academic module or the general training module you have to check that you are given the appropriate answer sheet and questionnaire, and ask the invigilator for questions or clarifications.

Skimming and scanning are two of the most important skills an examinee needs to practice to ace the IELTS reading test. It would also be helpful if one has a wide lexical resource and knows how to spot key words. Applicants are also advised to read and follow instructions carefully and strictly.

The Listening part of the IELTS test is the first written test given on the actual testing day. It lasts for 30-40 minutes and consists of 40 questions. An examinee gets a questionnaire and will be instructed later on to transfer all his or her answers on the answer sheet. The IELTS listening test is the most challenging test among the four areas of English tested.

Examinees need to sharpen their listening skills by listening to different English audio or podcasts and be familiar with different accents, especially British, American and Australian. An examinee also needs to widen his or her vocabulary and comprehension to be able to ace the IELTS listening test.

International English Language Testing System or IELTS is an English proficiency test that measures the listening, reading, writing and speaking skills of people from non-English countries who wish to study, visit or migrate to an English-speaking country. This test evaluates a person’s English skills to make his or her stay in an English-speaking country worthwhile. Listening, reading and writing are given as written tests, while an applicant needs to have a one-on-one interview with an examiner for the speaking test.

The tests are quite challenging since it will gauge your grammatical ability, lexical resource, comprehension and other areas of English.
